Individual EMDR Consultation
Individual EMDR consultation is a valuable resource for EMDR therapists who are committed to enhancing their clinical skills and providing the best treatment possible for their clients. Whether you are looking to learn best practice of using EMDR and Play Therapy, or looking for consultation to increase the fidelity of your skills, pursuing consultation provides the right environment for you to reflect and implement. The consultation process requires an EMDRIA Approved Consultant who meets the requirements of the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) and enter into an agreement for consultation. Only EMDRIA Approved Consultants (and Consultants in Training) can provide the consultation necessary for certification. Teresa provides individual EMDR consultation to EMDR Therapists all over the US and Canada.
During the consultation session, Teresa provides an opportunity for the EMDR therapist to present cases to discuss where the EMDR Therapist feels stuck, or would like to increase conceptualization and fidelity in their EMDR Practice. In consultation, we discuss the case through the lens of AIP and all 8 phases of EMDR. Additionally, Teresa is an expert in integrating Play Therapy (Child Centered Play Therapy and Adlerian Play Therapy), in addition to IFS and attachment approaches with EMDR. Consultation with Teresa provides the EMDR Therapist with a deeper understanding of how to navigate EMDR with clients. Throughout EMDR individual and group consultation, Teresa will provide feedback, guidance, and support to enable you as the consultee to better understand EMDR treatment, improve your skills and deliver superior client outcomes through EMDR Therapy. Teresa does not provide clinical supervision in EMDR Consultation, although if you are seeking EMDR Consultation in conjunction with integrating with Play Therapy, IFS or attachment, she may support your case conceptualization in the context of EMDR Therapy.
The Consultation process can be either leading to certification, or to periodically help EMDR Therapists to resolve challenges that either they or their client may experiencing during the EMDR Sessions. Both the EMDR therapist and the Approved Consultant are ethically bound to maintain the confidentiality and safety for the exploration of the case, and to protect the client. Finally, EMDR therapists incorporate the advice from the consultations into their treatment protocol, allowing them to provide the highest standard of care for their clients.
Group EMDR Consultation
Teresa currently has groups that meet for EMDR Consultation. These groups generally are specific to Play Therapy or attachment, and Teresa does provide a group for those fresh out of their Basic EMDR Training, who hope to gain a better understanding of the 8 Phases of EMDR Therapy into their own practice.
All groups are closed, and attendance is a vital part of the success of each group meeting. Participants are provided a link to meet via Google Meets.

EMDR Certification Process
To become certified in EMDR, there are several requirements that must be met. These requirements are established by EMDRIA, and are upheld by ethical standards to support the fidelity of the EMDR Therapy approach.
First, individuals must complete an EMDR basic training course that includes 20 hours of didactic and 20 hours of supervised practice, in addition to 10 hours of consultation in conjunction with the basic training.
Next, EMDR Trained Therapists must complete an additional 50 hours of clinical practice (of desensitization and reprocessing) with at least 25 clients. They must also attend 20 hours of consultation with an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. 10 hours may be obtained in group consultation, and at least 5 of these consultation hours must be with an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. A Consultant-in-Training may provide up to 15 hours of consultation toward certification.
Finally, at the conclusion of the EMDR Therapist’s consultation requirements, as well as practice requirements and completing 12 CE hours of advanced workshops in EMDR, the EMDR can provide a reference letter attesting to their development as an EMDR Therapist, according to the protocol.
